1.

You are on a hunting trip.  On Monday you don’t see any bears.  On Tuesday, you don’t see any bears.  But, on Wednesday, you get up early and go out hunting alone, and you still don’t see a bear.  However on Thursday, you get up early and leave the cabin to go bear hunting - alone.  You walk 1 mile South, and still no bear.  Then you walk two miles East, and you see a bear.  You reach for your gun - no bullets - so you run back to your cabin (which is one mile north).  What color is the bear?

“Do it, fix it, try it”  is our favorite axiom.  Karl Weick adds that “chaotic” action is preferable to orderly inaction.  The most important and
visible outcropping of the action bias in the excellent
companies is their willingness to try things out,
to experiment.
